At The Imaging Center, we couldn’t be prouder to offer our ultrasound services to the residents of Kalamazoo and the surrounding communities. No matter the reason you need an ultrasound, we’ll walk you step-by-step through the scan to ensure you’re calm and comfortable.
An ultrasound is one of the most common scans and noninvasive tests we offer. While it’s most often associated with pregnancy, it is also regularly used to examine soft tissues, blood flow, breast tissue, blood vessel concerns, and pain. By using high-frequency sound waves, the scan produces images from the inside of your body and allows your doctor to more carefully analyze the area in question.
The whole process could not be easier. You’ll lie down on one of our exam tables, and your technician will apply a gel to the area being examined. From there, the ultrasound handpiece (called a transducer) will be applied to the skin and glided around the area. They will look at the images on the screen, and your doctor will receive the results to review them with you. The whole process is comfortable and completely pain-free, and only takes about 15 minutes.
Almost everyone who is looking for further analysis is a good candidate for an ultrasound. More often than not, patients come to us after a doctor referred them for an ultrasound. Most patients are pregnant, experiencing abdominal pain, need more information for a possible cancer diagnosis, or have vascular issues. And because there is no radiation used, patients who need regular scans are more likely to have ultrasounds versus an X-ray.
