An MRI (or magnetic resonance imaging) is a diagnostic tool used to look for signs of brain, soft tissue, spine, blood vessel, and joint conditions. It uses strong magnets, radio waves, and a computer to create detailed, cross-sectional images of the body’s internal structure to help diagnose a wide range of issues, from tumors to strokes to ligament tears. And because an MRI doesn’t use radiation, it can be much safer than an X-ray or other types of imaging. It also means you can have MRIs more regularly if needed.
During the MRI, you lie down in the tube-shaped machine and remain still for the 30-60 minute scan. While the MRI can be loud, our team will provide you with headphones and other options to ensure you’re comfortable.
If your doctor refers you for an MRI, you are likely a good candidate for the scanning procedure. Unless you have certain metal implants in your body, an MRI should not be a problem.
Anyone with internal symptoms like pain, numbness, or neurological changes, or are in need of a diagnosis for conditions in the brain, spine, joints, organs (cancer, infection, stroke), or blood vessels can be a candidate.
