Terminology: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Approximate Procedure Time: 30 to 60 minutes
Scheduling Time: 1–5 days
Best For: Producing detailed images of soft tissues, including the brain, spinal cord, joints, and internal organs — often used to detect abnormalities like tumors, inflammation, or injuries
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is one of the most advanced tools available for diagnosing conditions affecting the brain, spine, joints, and soft tissues—without the use of radiation. At The Imaging Center, we combine cutting-edge MRI technology with a patient-first approach to deliver fast, accurate results in a calm, comfortable environment.
At The Imaging Center, we want your MRI experience to be smooth and stress-free. When preparing for your scan, wear loose, comfortable clothing that is free of metal zippers, buttons, and snaps. Some exams may require fasting or the avoidance of certain medications; any special instructions will be provided when your appointment is scheduled.
A locker will be provided for personal belongings, but please consider leaving all unnecessary items at home. To follow MRI safety protocols for our patients and team members, you may be asked to change into an MRI-safe gown that we will provide. A physician referral is required for all MRI scans under Michigan law, so be sure your provider sends the appropriate order before your visit.

To improve patient comfort and diagnostic precision, The Imaging Center now uses Subtle MR, an advanced AI-based software that enhances MRI image quality while reducing scan time. This allows us to deliver faster, clearer results, especially for brain, spine, and musculoskeletal exams.
There is no additional prep required for Subtle MR-enhanced scans. The technology works behind the scenes, processing raw MRI data in real-time to optimize the clarity of your images without extending your time in the scanner.
This enhancement is particularly beneficial for:
Our board-certified radiologists review the Subtle MR-enhanced images to ensure your provider receives the most accurate information for your care plan. Results are typically available within 24 to 48 hours and delivered securely to your referring physician.
Once your MRI is complete, you can resume your normal activities immediately—no downtime necessary. Your scan images will be reviewed by a board-certified, fellowship-trained radiologist who specializes in interpreting MRI results. We aim to deliver results to your referring provider within 24 hours, and you’ll receive a secure text notification when your images and report are available.
MRI is a safe, non-invasive imaging method that uses magnetic fields and radio waves—no radiation. However, it may not be appropriate for individuals with certain implanted medical devices (e.g., pacemakers or cochlear implants). Please notify us in advance if you have any implanted devices, metal fragments, or other medical concerns so we can ensure your safety. Other potential risks may include:
Results are typically available within 24 hours and will be shared directly with your referring physician. You can also access your results through our secure patient portal.
